Torrefaction Technology: Transforming Agricultural Waste into Green Energy
Converting agricultural residues into high-value, cleaner-burning fuels through innovative thermal processing.
What is Torrefaction?
Thermal Processing
Heating raw biomass in a low-oxygen environment at moderate temperatures between 200°C and 300°C
Moisture Removal
Moisture is removed from the biomass
Compound Extraction
Volatile organic compounds are driven out
Structural Transformation
The biomass structure is thermally decomposed to create a more carbon-rich, energy-dense material
Biomass Transformation Process

Raw Biomass Collection
Gathering paddy straw, rice husk, cotton stalks, groundnut shells, and other agricultural residues

Torrefaction Process
Heating in low-oxygen environment at 200°C-300°C

Property Enhancement
Creating carbon-rich, energy-dense material

Final Product
High-value, cleaner-burning fuel with improved properties
Successful Reactor Trial Run
PES Engineers Pvt. Ltd. has successfully conducted the trial run of the reactor unit of the first line for converting biomass feedstock into Green Coal.
This trial was conducted for the prestigious 100 Tons Per Day Biomass Torrefied Project being implemented on an EPC basis for APCPL Jhajjar — a joint venture company of NTPC Limited.
This marks a significant milestone in NTPC’s commitment towards sustainability and clean energy, and showcases the relentless dedication, technical expertise, and strong green focus of PES Engineers towards building a cleaner, renewable energy future.
The success of this trial is a testament to the unwavering support, collaboration, and commitment of both the APCPL team and the PES Engineers team — who worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality.
We are proud to contribute meaningfully to India’s renewable energy journey through innovation, commitment, and sustainable solutions.
A proud step towards a greener tomorrow!
